Using the South Beach Diet to Boost Your Metabolism

By: Wilson Farresh

The South Beach diet claims to be a scientifically proven program to help you lose weight and achieve your goals in a safer manner. This diet is able to help you lose weight quickly while boosting your overall health at the very same time. In general, many people lose anywhere between 8 to 12 pounds during the first two weeks after they begin using the South Beach plan.

The South Beach Diet is different from the Atkins diet plan because instead of eliminating carbs from your diet, you merely eat the right types of carbs and fat. This is done in a safe manner using a three phase plan that begins with eliminating most of your cravings and ends up implementing a diet program that you can use for the remainder of your life.

The Type of Carbs Matter

There are two types of carbohydrates. Good carbs are known as complex carbs and the bad carbs are known as simple carbs. Simple carbs are most often associated with refined foods or processed foods and they have a low nutritional value in addition to a high glycemic index. They are quick to digest and they also cause your blood sugar to rise significantly and fall off dramatically as well within a short span of time. This is not a good situation for your body. Some examples of simple carbs and would be white bread, cupcakes, cookies, most processed foods and cola products.

Complex carbs are the good guys. They're known as the good carbs and they usually contain much more nutrients and occur more naturally. They have a low to moderate glycemic level and higher fiber content. This means these foods are slower to digest which means you don't get as hungry as quick. That is better for your body. Some examples of complex carbs would be things such as whole grains, most fruits and vegetables as well as legumes and many types of beans.

The real value in the South Beach diet is the fact that it is based on sound nutritional advice. This allows most people to remain on the diet for much longer periods. The true value of any diet plan is to make it part of your long-term lifestyle.

The well-balanced diet of the South Beach plan should consist of a lot of fruits and vegetables and whole grains and a variety of nuts and healthy oils. Many people from all over the country and beyond continue to have success with this weight loss program. The diet in the program is easy to learn and quick to implement. Because of the wide variety of foods recipes and menus that are available with the South Beach plan, you have a higher chance of success while utilizing the program.

Celebrities love the South Beach diet plan as well. In fact, many swear by it. That is actually where much of the popularity came from but it doesn't mean that the diet is easy. In fact you still have to work at it. The average man or woman finds that this diet is one of the easiest and cheaper ones to maintain since it requires balanced eating habits instead of deprivation or special foods. Perhaps that's why so many people stay on this diet for much longer periods.

The South Beach Diet plan offers many different types of foods that you can eat. But that plan also makes it easier to ensure your foods without sacrifices and without feeling hungry. This type of program is much easier to follow than most and is worth your time to learn more about it. Ideally if you can implement this plan into your long term overall fitness program, you will have much better chance of success.
