Wrinkle Cream Reviews - A Historic Perspective

By: Geoff Hopkins

Reviews of wrinkle creams began appearing shortly after the wrinkle creams did. Originally these reviews were intended to inform consumers about the various merits of the creams. However, in recent times, wrinkle cream reviews have become influenced by salesmanship from the vendors.

The first wrinkle cream reviews were of a factual nature. They were written by scientists whose aim was to analyze the properties of the cream, their manufacture, effectiveness and detrimental affects (these were common among early wrinkle creams).

Typically, such reviewers had a full scientific education to post-graduate level, and had worked in similar fields for several years previously. At that time there was much competition for jobs in scientific research fields, so obtaining the appropriately qualified staff was not a problem.

The early reviewers aimed to find the best anti aging wrinkle cream on the market and performed many experiments to achieve this. They would test the creams on skin from various sources including dead skin, dismembered skin, animal skin (mainly mouse and weasel, but also cat) and live human skin.

The types of skin used by the reviewers also included skins of different ages to allow more accurate assessment of the creams. Once the tests were finished, it was therefore possible to say whether a cream was more beneficial for elderly cat skin or for young dismembered skin etc. The findings of this research were very useful.

The reviewers probably spent more time in the lab than they did writing their final drafts. This is as it should be, as the quality of the wrinkle cream reviews was based on hard scientific fact rather than speculation and fancy words. However, once an adequate assessment of each wrinkle cream had been produced and the best wrinkle cream determined, the reviewers began their writing process.

In order to produce elegant and non-misleading content in their reviews, the texts were written by teams of reviewers: typically one person would write the first draft, a second would amend it, a third proof-read it and a fourth approve it for publication. In the final text, no effort was made to spare readers from complex scientific detail, as this was believed to be beneficial to potential wrinkle cream customers.

It is my contention that modern wrinkle cream reviews are too often colored by a vested interest in particular wrinkle creams, and written with the intention of marketing these products. Furthermore the creams don't seem to be assessed with the same rigor or exactitude. This is a shame.
